Somehow you would like a companion, but you think you are not quite ready, you are not sure if you can really commit to it, and you are asking yourself, is there such a thing as a trial run? Can pets be returned if they ‘don’t fit’?
Well maybe.
The general advice is to think it through, invest some time into research and be sure that you are ready.
But life being life, we will frequently find ourselves ‘in between’. Getting there but not quite there yet. And then what? Wait until everything falls into place? Take a plunge?
or foster.
Dubai being what it is, fast lived, ever changing, has left a lot of cats and dogs on the streets with no place to go, and very insufficient shelter options. Up against this are a number of dedicated, hard working and usually privately run charities trying to do their very best to help those poor souls – but with nowhere to put them.
For these charities and their charges, a foster home can be a truly heaven sent helping hand. A lot of animals are found in poor state of health and may need some time to heal, recover or adjust to living with people. And even those who are ‘ready’ for adoption may not have a new home available right that instance. So having a foster home available where these poor little souls can be ‘parked’ for a while can buy some valuable time to get things lined up and ready.
And the fosterer?
They have a temporary pet responsibility. A trial run with a four legged companion.
Please keep in mind that we are talking about living beings with feelings and emotions, who may be traumatized, scared or confused. Pushing them around is the last thing we should do to them. Ideally, they are offered a safe space to adjust and get ready for a new life in a loving forever home.
And what if it “clicks”? What if the temporary roommate turns out to be the perfect addition to your life?
Well, then you may have simply moved on from “in between” to “ready to commit”, and found your new partner in crime. Don’t miss the chance to make both of you happy!
So get in touch with one of the charities and ask them for options. They will appreciate any little help you are able to provide.
By the way, they do also appreciate any financial help or donations that you are able to give.
